First let me tell you about myself… My name is Kelli Beaty and midwifery is truly a calling for me, I believe in God’s perfect design of women’s bodies and the ability we have to give birth. Encouraging women to envelope the joy that pregnancy and childbirth can offer is a daily goal for me. I began my training in 1990 by studying about midwifery care and other related issues of women’s health. During this time I began attending a few births as a support person. This was a wondrous time for me as I had only given birth once and my experience had been nothing like the births I was witnessing or reading about. I knew this was my calling and the third love of my life.

Shortly after this I began my apprenticeship with my dear friend and fellow midwife, Carol Hutson. I continued my apprenticeship for two years attending births as a student and studying course work. During this time I was also back and forth to a Dallas birth center getting additional training. I attended the Texas Department of Health Midwifery Training Program and passed the state exam for this course. This was an excellent learning period for me and I enjoyed it immensely. Following this training I also became an EMT/P. But I would soon find out that I was, as I had been since childhood, drawn to pregnant women and infants. And since nothing else but midwifery would do, I began my own midwifery practice and have continued doing what I love for all these years. My husband and I have 5 children, 3 of which were born at home. They were all very different labors and births, which is a blessing because it helps me relate to women in different laboring situations. Since becoming a midwife we have moved all over Texas so I have seen the diversity of birthing all over the state.

Now for a little about me, my name is Shanna Cloyd. My interest in midwifery began in 1993 with my first pregnancy. Knowing instinctually that natural birth was best I began looking for a midwife in my area. Finding none, I settled on a female obstetrician and had a highly managed hospital birth. After that experience I knew that God had a better way for women, including myself, to birth our babies and I wanted to be a part of it! I began reading books and studying about the midwifery model of care. In the fall of 1999, I began the Association of Texas Midwives Training Program and during that time I also attended numerous hospital births with friendly physicians. In 2000, I met Kelli and began an apprenticeship with her while I was pregnant with my second baby. In January 2001 I had a wonderful homebirth with Kelli in attendance as my midwife. This experience confirmed for me that I was on the right path in helping women take birth back.I graduated from ATM in June of 2005 and passed the North American Registry of Midwives exam in August, 2005. I am honored to now be serving women and their families along- side of Kelli and am extremely blessed every time I see a strong, wise woman birth her baby the way she desires, on her own terms. |

We are members of several midwifery groups including our state midwifery association the Association of Texas Midwives (ATM) which we both currently serve on the board of directors. We are also members of the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) and are currently participating in their Statistics Project. This research is critical in getting the safety of midwifery documented. Kelli is the President of the West Texas Chapter of ICAN (International Caesarean Awareness Network). This association helps women recover from a c-section and assists in learning how to avoid a second cesarean section. |

| Because of our love for expecting moms and birth we decided to open the 1st freestanding birth center in the West Texas area. We opened our doors in March 2002 and since have served hundreds of West Texas families. We have even had devoted families travel from far away places such as Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas. The birth center is designed to feel as comfortable as your home, this is where we conduct consultations, where you will receive prenatal visits, educational classes etc. Please do not let the outside of our office make you uncomfortable, while it may look very business like we assure you that it is as comfortable as your own home. We have a playroom specifically for your children and extended family to enjoy while attending visits with you. Another benefit of receiving your maternity care with us is that we both attend your prenatal visits and birth. In short you receive the blessing of two midwives dedicated to your care. Our birth center is licensed through the Texas Health Facility Licensing and Compliance Division, which indicates that we have met all of the requirements set forth by the state. |

Since we understand that all families do not desire a homebirth/birth center birth or midwifery care, we strive to help women with whatever choices they make, without judgment or influence. Our hope is that each birthing woman will educate herself to the extent that she has the ability to make informed decisions about her care.
Come in for a free consultation and tour of our beautiful birthing center today! We would love the opportunity to assist you and your family in any way towards a fabulous birth experience. It’s your body & your baby….birth your way!
Looking forward to meeting you,
Kelli & Shanna |
