Prenatal Care

Parental Care

From your free consultation, to your one hour prenatal visits, you will notice the difference in our midwives' personal and loving care. You will have two midwives that care for you prenatally and are on call for your birth. These visits are a time for getting to know each other, assessing both yours and your baby's health & wellness and preparing for your upcoming delivery. Regular prenatal care is paramount in helping your midwife to recognize and prevent physical, emotional, & mental issues that may prevent you from having the birth you desire. Your initial visit includes a complete physical & risk assessment, medical history, and blood work. Subsequent visits are scheduled every 4 weeks until the 32nd week of pregnancy, then every 2 weeks until a month before your due date, when we will meet every week until you go into labor. We offer prenatal testing and laboratory work and are on call 24 hours a day for your needs. We invest in you as you invest in a safer, more rewarding birth experience...

Postpartum Care

Postpartum Care

Shortly after the delivery of your baby you will be ready to eat like the rock star you are! We will order food for you and your family from your favorite restaurant. Before leaving the Birth Center, moms are taught how to assess their health and well being as their body returns to its pre-pregnant state. Parents are taught what to expect in the days and weeks ahead concerning their baby. While the length of time a family remains in the birth center varies from family to family, the typical length of stay after delivery is 4-6 hours. Most are eager to return home and settle in with their new baby. Follow-up care will include a 2-3 day visit, and a two week and six week postpartum visit at the birth center. Of course, the midwives are also available for consultation 24 hours a day by phone.

Newborn Care

Newborn Care

We believe in the Family-Centered model of care and so our moms and babies are never separated. Early breastfeeding is encouraged and supported. You'll have as much time as you want to bond with your baby and you'll be able to have anyone you want see, touch or hold the baby. We will do a newborn exam within the first two hours after birth, with baby right by your side. We will provide you with information regarding the State of Texas requirements for newborns, such as antibiotic drops for eyes, newborn screening, vitamin K and hearing screening. We support your right to make decisions regarding your newborn's care. We provide well baby care up to 6 weeks, after which we recommend you make arrangements with the pediatrician or family doctor of your choice.

Birth Center Birth

Birth Center Birth

Imagine arriving at the birth center in labor to a private, candlelit room, the birth pool full of warm water, music playing softly in the background. Give birth surrounded by your loved ones in a personal and intimate setting. You may choose to labor with the support of only your partner & your midwife. Or, you may see your birth as a family experience and choose to have many family members & friends. All are welcome. We easily incorporate fathers and children into the process. In addition to the private rooms, there are kitchenette facilities and a large family room for your guests.

Twins & Breeches

Twins & Breeches

Our midwives are experienced with twins and breeches. We ask that our clients wanting a twin and/or breech birth be well informed on the risks & benefits. We fully support women in their choice of how and with whom to birth their baby. For more information about breech birth studies and abstracts see our resources section.

Water Birth

Water Birth

Relaxing in a warm bath to relieve pain has been used for everything from backache, aching muscles, strenuous exercise, or menstrual pain. Now, more and more women are discovering how wonderful a pool of warm water can be during labor and birth. It is often referred to as an "aqua-dural" or the midwife?s epidural. If your birthing plans include a water birth, we recognize the many advantages of water such as comfort, pain relief, and freedom of movement. Water helps the woman surrender to the birth process and it creates a feeling of tranquility to the whole birth experience.

Sonograms

We appreciate that there are times a sonogram is helpful in determining the health & well-being of your baby or simply to reassure you that everything is okay. If you desire a sonogram or we feel it is necessary there are several options for obtaining one.

Insurance & Financing

Insurance & Financing

Midwifery and birth center fees are usually 1/3 less than what you would expect to pay for physician care and a hospital birth. We do accept insurance and have a professional insurance biller that is able to work with your insurance company to ensure payment. If you are cash pay client we offer a flexible payment plan. Currently Medicaid does not pay for midwifery services, but if you qualify for Medicaid we offer a reasonable discount. We will not turn anyone away for financial reasons, but we expect you to take full responsibility for making financial arrangements with us. Please contact us for more information.
